Rolex Datejust 1601 – Silver Dial
The Rolex Datejust 1601 is one of the defining references of the classic Datejust line, produced throughout the 1960s and 1970s. With its 36mm case, white gold fluted bezel and characteristic pie-pan dial, it represents the vintage proportions that made the Datejust an icon.
This example features a clean silver dial with applied baton markers, a configuration that perfectly reflects the understated elegance Rolex became known for during this period.
The watch is fitted with what collectors refer to as a “Mexican bracelet”. During the 1960s and 1970s, Rolex supplied certain bracelets through authorized manufacturers in Mexico to serve the local market and avoid import restrictions and taxes. These bracelets were produced in licensed workshops and are typically marked accordingly on the clasp.
While visually very similar to Swiss-made Jubilee bracelets, Mexican examples have subtle construction differences and today form an interesting historical footnote within vintage Rolex production.
Inside beats the Rolex calibre 1570, one of the brand’s most respected vintage movements, known for its durability and precision.
A classic vintage Datejust with an interesting regional detail.
